Alexander Pirnie

Alexander Pirnie (born April 16, 1903 in Pulaski , New York , †  June 12, 1982 in Canastota , New York) was an American politician . Between 1959 and 1973 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1920, Alexander Pirnie graduated from the Pulaski Academy . He then studied at Cornell University until 1924 . After completing a law degree at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1926, he began to work in this profession in Utica . He also became a first lieutenant in the infantry in the Officers Reserve Corps . During the Second World War he was used in Europe. He rose to the rank of colonel. For his military achievements he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit .

Politically, Pirnie became a member of the Republican Party . In the 1958 congressional elections , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 34th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded William R. Williams on January 3, 1959 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1973 . Since 1963 he represented the 32nd district of his state there. During his time in Congress, the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement took place .

In 1972 Alexander Pirnie renounced another congressional candidacy. From 1965 to 1982 he was a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He also ran a clothing company in Mohawk . He spent his old age in Utica and died on June 12, 1982 in Canastota.
