Warren Brewster Hooker (born November 24, 1856 in Perrysburg , Cattaraugus County , New York , †  March 5, 1920 in Fredonia , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1891 and 1898 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Warren Hooker attended his home public schools and the Forestville Free Academy . After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar in 1879, he began to work in Forestville in this profession. Between 1878 and 1881 he was acting or acting District Councilor ( Special Surrogate ) in Chautauqua County . From 1882 to 1884 he lived in Tacoma in what is now Washington State , where he practiced as a lawyer. He then moved to Fredonia, New York State. Between 1884 and 1898 he also worked there as a lawyer. In the years 1889 and 1890 he was Town Supervisor of Pomfret, to which Fredoria belonged. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1890 Hooker was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 34th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded William G. Laidlaw on March 4, 1891 . After four re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on November 10, 1898 . From 1895 Hooker was chairman of the Committee on Rivers and Harbors . During his time as a member of Congress, the Spanish-American War began in 1898 .

Hooker's resignation came after his appointment as a judge on the Supreme Court of New York . In 1899 he was officially elected to this office; his term of office ran until 1913. Between 1902 and 1909 he was also a member of the Appellate Division . In 1905, Judge Hooker faced impeachment proceedings from the New York State Legislature . In this trial he was acquitted. From 1914 he practiced again as a lawyer in Fredoria. In 1919 he was appointed an official arbitrator by the State Supreme Court . He died on March 5, 1920 in Fredonia, where he was also buried.
