Lyman K. Bass
Lyman Kidder Bass (born November 13, 1836 in Alden , Erie County , New York , † May 11, 1889 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1877 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Lyman Bass attended public schools in his home country. In 1856 he graduated from Union College at Schenectady . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1858, he began to work in Buffalo in this profession. Between 1865 and 1872 he was a district attorney in Erie County. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1870 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .
In the congressional elections of 1872 Bass was then elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 31st constituency of New York , where he succeeded Walter L. Sessions on March 4, 1873 . After a re-election in the 32nd district of his state, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1877. In 1876 he declined to run for health reasons. After his time in the US House of Representatives practiced bass from 1877 in Colorado Springs in the State of Colorado as a lawyer. Between 1878 and 1884 he was also a consultant for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad . He died on May 11, 1889 while visiting New York City.
