James ME O'Grady
James Mary Early O'Grady (born March 31, 1863 in Rochester , New York , † November 3, 1928 there ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1901 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
James O'Grady attended public schools in his home country. In 1885 he graduated from the University of Rochester . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Rochester. From 1887 to 1892 he was a member of the local education committee. From 1891 he was president of this body. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1893 and 1898 he was a member of the New York State Assembly and was temporarily speaker of this chamber.
In the 1898 congressional election , O'Grady was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 31st constituency of New York , where he succeeded Henry C. Brewster on March 4, 1899 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1900, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1901 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on November 3, 1928 in Rochester, where he was also buried.
