Andrew McCord (* around 1754 in Stony Ford , New York Province; † 1808 there ) was an American politician . Between 1803 and 1805 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Andrew McCord grew up during the British colonial era. He attended community schools and the Newburgh Academy . On November 7, 1775, he took part as a delegate at the convention in New Paltz to elect deputies for the second provincial congress. He was born on January 31, 1787 quartermaster in the militia of Ulster County . McCord was promoted to captain before resigning on April 10, 1798. He sat in the New York State Assembly in 1795, 1796, 1798, 1800, 1802 and 1807 , where he served as a speaker in 1807 .

As an opponent of too strong a central government, he joined the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In the congressional elections of 1802 McCord was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Theodorus Bailey on March 4, 1803 . After that he worked in agriculture. He died in Stony Ford in 1808 and was buried in the family cemetery of his nearby farm, which was later destroyed. His remains were not reburied.
