John LeBoutillier (1981)

John LeBoutillier (born May 26, 1953 in Glen Cove , New York ) is a former American politician . Between 1981 and 1983 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives . Since then he has worked as a political commentator.

Career

John LeBoutillier attended Grammar School in Greenvale . In 1971 he graduated from the Brooks School in North Andover ( Massachusetts ). He then studied at Harvard University until 1979 . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Since 1974 he has been committed to the American prisoners of war during the Vietnam War . In 1976 he was campaign coordinator for Gerald Ford's presidential campaign in New Jersey .

In the 1980 congressional elections , LeBoutillier was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the sixth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Democrat Lester L. Wolff on January 3, 1981 . Since he was not confirmed in 1982, he could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1983 . There he was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and a working group that dealt with the fate of prisoners of war. In 1983 he was fined $ 7,000 for an illegal election donation from his mother, who also had to pay $ 7,000.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, LeBoutillier continued to work on improving the situation of former prisoners of war from the Vietnam War. In this context he created a number of organizations with the same objective. He traveled to the Far East in search of American prisoners of war still alive. He also met with leading politicians from this region. He also raised his concerns on many radio and television talk shows. He has also written newspaper articles and some books. Although he is a member of the Republican Party, he was critical of the administration of President George W. Bush . He criticized the Iraq war and the immigration policy of the Bush administration. In 2008 he was also in opposition to the then Republican presidential candidate John McCain , who, unlike LeBoutillier, did not believe that there are American prisoners of war still alive in Vietnam who stayed there after the peace agreement.

As a political commentator, LeBoutillier is present in numerous media. He has written articles for the New York Times , the New York Post and the Washington Post, among others . He has also hosted various radio talk shows, including on WABC .
