Robert Le Roy Livingston

Robert Le Roy Livingston (* 1778 in Claverack , New York ; † 1836 ) was an American politician . Between 1809 and 1812 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Le Roy Livingston was born in Claverack during the War of Independence . He graduated from Princeton College . On January 14, 1799 he enlisted as First Lieutenant in the 12th US Infantry and was honorably discharged on June 15, 1800. Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party . In the congressional election of 1808 Livingston was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the sixth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Daniel C. Verplanck on March 4, 1809 . He was re-elected once, but resigned from his seat on May 6, 1812, to take part in the British-American War . On May 29, 1812, he enlisted as Lieutenant Colonel in the 23rd Infantry and served there until his resignation on February 1, 1813. He died in 1836.
