James A. Roe

James A. Roe (born July 9, 1896 in Flushing , New York , † April 22, 1967 in Hollywood , Florida ) was an American officer , lawyer and politician . Between 1945 and 1947 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James A. Roe was born in Flushing just before the end of the 19th century. He attended public and parochial schools . Roe studied law , engineering, and accounting. He graduated in August 1917 at the United States Military School of Aeronautics of Cornell University in Ithaca . The United States entered World War I about four months earlier . On September 17, 1917, he then signed up as a private in the United States Army Air Corps . He was promoted to lieutenant and instructor of the Advanced Flying . On January 4, 1919, he took his leave. He then pursued real estate deals and worked as an insurance broker. Roe also showed an interest in contract law and business engineering . He was a director of Flushing National Bank .

Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . Between 1939 and 1952 he had presided over the Democratic County Committee of Queens . He took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1940, 1948 and 1960.

In July 1943 he joined the US Army . Roe held the rank of major at the time . He was assigned to the United States Army Corps of Engineers , where he served until January 1945 when he was honorably discharged. He was a lieutenant colonel at the time .

In the 1944 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of New York , where he succeeded James J.
