John Blake Junior

John Blake junior (born December 5, 1762 in Ulster County , New York province , † January 13, 1826 in Montgomery , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1809 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Blake junior grew up during the British colonial era. He attended public schools. During the Revolutionary War he served in the New York National Guard . In 1793 he was appointed auxiliary sheriff ( deputy sheriff appointed) in Ulster County. Between 1798 and 1800 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . Then he was Orange County Sheriff from 1803 to 1805 .

As an opponent of too strong a central government, he joined the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In the 1804 congressional election , Blake was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Andrew McCord on March 4, 1805 . Blake was re-elected once and then dropped out after the March 3, 1809 Congress of.

He then sat again in the New York State Assembly in 1812 and 1813. Between 1815 and 1818 he was a judge on the Court of Common Pleas . In 1819 he was again in the New York State Assembly. Blake was the town of Montgomery's 15-term town supervisor . He died there on January 13, 1826 and was then buried in the Berea Churchyard near Newburgh .
