Thomas Elliott Stewart (born September 22, 1824 in New York City , † January 9, 1904 ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1867 and 1869 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Elliott Stewart was born and raised in New York City. He completed his preparatory studies and then studied law . He was admitted to the bar in 1847 and then began practicing in New York City. In 1854 he was a member of the education committee. He served in the New York State Assembly in 1865 and 1866 . Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . Between 1866 and 1868 he was a member of the Republican State Committee .

In the congressional elections of 1866 Stewart was elected as a Conservative Republican in the sixth constituency of New York to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Henry J.
