Robert Tripp Ross
Robert Tripp Ross (born June 4, 1903 in Washington , North Carolina , † October 1, 1981 in Jackson Heights , New York ) was an American politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives between 1947 and 1949 and in 1952 and 1953 .
Career
Robert Tripp Ross was born in Washington in the early 20th century. He attended public schools. In 1929 he moved to New York City , where he worked as a pharmacist ( druggist ). He then worked for 17 years in leading and managerial positions at a large pharmaceutical company. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .
In the 1946 congressional election , Ross was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of New York , where he succeeded James A. Roe on January 4, 1947 . Two years later he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after January 3, 1949 Congress of.
He then went on to manufacture clothing and sports equipment.
In 1950 , Ross suffered a defeat in his candidacy for the 82nd Congress . However, on February 19, 1952, he was elected to the 82nd Congress in a by-election to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Thomas Vincent Quinn . Ross resigned from Congress after January 3, 1953 after losing in the 1952 regular congressional election .
He was Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs from March 1954 to March 1956 . He then served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative and Public Affairs from March 1956 to March 1957 . He was then from March 1957 to January 1958 Assistant Borough Works Commissioner of Queens . Between 1959 and 1968 he was Vice President of the Merchandising Apparel Company . He lived in Jackson Heights until his death on October 1, 1981. His body was buried in Oakdale Cemetery , Washington.
