John Bird (politician, 1768)

John Bird (born November 22, 1768 in Litchfield , Colony of Connecticut , † February 2, 1806 in Troy , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1799 and 1801 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Bird grew up during the British colonial era. He pursued classical studies and graduated from Yale College in 1786 . Bird was studying law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Litchfield. In 1793 he moved to Troy, where he continued to work as a lawyer. Between 1796 and 1798 he was a member of the New York State Assembly .

Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party . In the congressional elections of 1798 Bird was elected in the sixth constituency of New York in the US House of Representatives, which was then still in Philadelphia , where he succeeded Hezekiah L. Hosmer on March 4, 1799 . However, on July 25, 1801, he resigned from his congress seat.

Then he worked as a lawyer again. He died in Troy on February 2, 1806 and was buried in Mount Ida Cemetery .
