David S. Jackson

David Sherwood Jackson (* 1813 in New York City , † January 20, 1872 there ) was an American politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives in 1847 and 1848 .

Career

David Sherwood Jackson was born and raised in New York City during the British-American War . He attended public schools. Between 1843 and 1846 he was an Alderman on the Common Council of New York City. He went about commercial business. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1846 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of New York , where he succeeded William W. Campbell on March 4, 1847 . James Monroe contested his choice because of a formal error in the registration. As a result, the US House of Representatives ruled on April 19, 1848 that no one was entitled to this seat. This created a vacancy that was only closed after the next regular election .

Then he went back to his previous business. Jackson sat again as Alderman on the Common Council in 1856 and 1857. He died in New York City on January 20, 1872 and was buried in Marble Cemetery .
