Thomas P. Grosvenor
Thomas Peabody Grosvenor (born December 20, 1778 in Pomfret , Connecticut , † April 24, 1817 in Waterloo , Maryland ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1813 and 1817 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Thomas Peabody Grosvenor was born in Pomfret during the War of Independence . He studied classical antiquity and graduated from Yale College in 1800 . Then he studied law . He was admitted to the bar in 1803 and then began to practice in Hudson, New York. Between 1810 and 1812 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . During that time, he served as District Attorney for Essex County in 1810 and 1811 . Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party .
On January 29, 1813, Grosvenor was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the sixth constituency of New York , to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Robert Le Roy Livingston . He was then elected to the US House of Representatives in the fifth constituency of New York, where he succeeded Thomas B. Cooke on March 4, 1813 . He was re-elected once and then dropped out after the March 3, 1817 Congress of.
Grosvenor spent the remainder of his life practicing law in Baltimore, Maryland. He died on April 24, 1817 in Waterloo and was then buried in Hudson.
