Daniel C. Verplanck

Daniel Crommelin Verplanck (born March 19, 1762 in New York City , † March 29, 1834 near Fishkill , Dutchess County , New York ) was an American politician .

He was tutored by private tutors and then graduated from Columbia College (later Columbia University ) in New York City in 1788 . Verplanck studied law , was admitted to the bar, and began practicing in New York City in 1789. He was also involved in banking.

Verplanck was elected as a Democratic Republican in the 8th US Congress to fill the vacancy created by the death of Isaac Bloom . He was re-elected to the 9th and 10th US Congresses , where he served from October 17, 1803 to March 3, 1809. Verplanck decided not to run for re-election in 1808 and returned to his legal practice. He then served as a judge on the Court of Common Pleas of Dutchess County between 1828 and 1830 . He died in 1834 at his home, Mount Gulian, near Fishkill, and was buried in Trinity Church Cemetery in Fishkill.

Daniel Verplanck's son, Gulian Crommelin Verplanck , was also a New York Congressman .
