Bernd Möllenstädt
Bernd Möllenstädt (born February 22, 1943 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † March 13, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German type designer and typographer .
Möllenstädt worked for H. Berthold AG for several years . Best known are his writings: Formata , Signata and his revisions of the Akzidenz-Grotesk . The Formata was used as a corporate typeface by Allianz SE , Postbank , Infratest and Škoda . Möllenstädt designed logos and signets for Commerzbank , Mauser Office , the Hoepfner private brewery and the Süddeutsche Zeitung .
Life
Möllenstädt completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter to study graphic design. From 1968 he was responsible for the Berthold Types' type studio. In 1990 he succeeded Günter Gerhard Lange as artistic director for type design for Berthold Types in Berlin . Möllenstädt had been a freelance type designer since 1998. He worked as a lecturer for the Munich universities of typography and font design for Wolfgang Beinert .
