Herbert Tenzer (born November 1, 1905 in New York City , † March 24, 1993 in Lawrence , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1965 and 1969 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Herbert Tenzer was born in New York City in the early 20th century. He attended public schools and graduated from New York University Law School in 1927 . He was admitted to the bar in 1929 and began practicing the same year. On January 1, 1937, he founded and became a senior partner in a law firm in New York City. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the 1964 congressional elections , Tenzer was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Frank J. Becker on January 4, 1965 . After a successful re-election he resigned in 1968 to run again and was eliminated from the after January 3, 1969 Congress of. He then worked as a trustee at Yeshiva University . Between 1969 and 1983 he chaired the Board of Ethics of Nassau County . Tenzer was also vice chairman of the New York State Special Advisory Committee on Medical Malpractice in 1975 and chairman of the New York State Board of Social Welfare between 1977 and 1983 . He lived in Lawrence until his death on March 24, 1993.
