Grace Meng ( Chinese  孟昭文 , Pinyin Mèng Zhāowén , born October 1, 1975 in Queens , New York City ) is an American politician . She has represented New York State in the US House of Representatives since 2013 .

Career

Grace Meng attended Stuyvesant High School . She then studied at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor until 1997 . After completing a law degree at Yeshiva University in New York and being admitted to the bar in 2002, she began working in this profession. At the same time she embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 2009 and 2012, she was a member of the New York State Assembly . There she was a member of six committees.

In the 2012 congressional election , Meng was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of New York , where she succeeded Gregory Meeks , who moved to the fifth district, on January 3, 2013 . She is or was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Committee on Small Business as well as two sub-committees. She is also a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus . After two re-elections so far in 2014 and 2016, she can continue to exercise her office today. Your new legislative period runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.

Grace Meng is married and has two sons. The family lives in Queens.
