Edwin Ruthven Meade (born July 6, 1836 in Norwich , New York , † November 28, 1889 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1875 and 1877 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edwin Ruthven Meade pursued an academic career. He studied law . He was admitted to the bar in 1858 and then began practicing in Norwich. In 1872 he moved to New York City, where he continued to practice as a lawyer. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . In the congressional election of 1874 Meade was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of New York , where he succeeded William R. Roberts on March 4, 1875 . Since he on a run again in 1876 renounced, he left the after 3 March 1877 Congress of. Then he went back to his previous job. He died of syphilis on November 28, 1889 in Ward's Island Insane Asylum in New York City and was buried in the Greene cemetery.
