Philip Jeremiah Schuyler (born January 21, 1768 in Albany , New York Province, † February 21, 1835 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1819 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives . He is commonly called "Philip J. Schuyler" while his father is usually known as Philip Schuyler .

Career

Philip Jeremiah Schuyler, son of Catherine Van Rensselaer (1734-1803) and Philip John Schuyler (1733-1804), both of whom came from wealthy Netherlandish families, grew up during the British colonial era. His siblings included a. Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton and Angelica Schuyler Church . He received a modest education among private tutors. He then worked in agriculture in Dutchess County . In 1798 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party .

In the congressional elections of 1816 Schuyler was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Thomas P. After that he worked in agriculture again. He died in New York City on February 21, 1835 and was buried on the Schuyler estate near Rhinebeck . He was later reburied in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery in Poughkeepsie .
