Asa Fitch (born November 10, 1765 in Groton , Colony of Connecticut , † August 24, 1843 in Salem , New York ) was an American officer , doctor and politician . Between 1811 and 1813 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Asa Fitch grew up during the British colonial era. He received a modest education. During the Revolutionary War , he served as a sergeant in Captain Livingston's company . After the war he studied medicine and then practiced in Duanesburg and Salem. Between 1799 and 1810 worked as a justice of the peace and between 1810 and 1821 as a district judge. In 1806 he became president of the Washington County Medical Society , a position he held until 1826. Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party .

In the congressional elections of 1810 , Fitch was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of New York , where on March 4, 1811 he succeeded Herman Knickerbocker and Robert Le Roy Livingston , who previously jointly owned the district in US House of Representatives.
