Jean-Michel Couve (born January 3, 1940 in Le Muy ) is a French politician . He has been a member of the National Assembly since 1986 .

Couve went to school in Cannes and studied medicine in Marseille . From 1971 he worked as a cardiologist in Saint-Tropez . In 1977 he moved to the city council and was elected mayor in 1983. He was voted out of office in 1989, but was re-elected in 1993 and held the post until 2008. After immediately giving up his post in the local hospital, he entered the National Assembly in 1986 for the Gaullists . From 1992 to 2001 he was a member of the General Council in the Var department in parallel to his parliamentary mandate and was particularly concerned with tourism matters. He was re-elected several times as a member of the National Assembly. In 2002 he joined the newly founded UMP party . At the end of November 2012, Couve was one of around 70 MEPs who, with their leader François Fillon, split off from the UMP group in parliament and founded their own group under the name R-UMP.
