John J. Rooney
John James Rooney (born November 29, 1903 in Brooklyn , New York , † October 26, 1975 in Washington, DC ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1944 and 1974 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John James Rooney was born in Brooklyn in the early 20th century. There he attended Parochial Schools and the St. Francis Preparatory School and College . He went to the law department of Fordham University in New York City , which he left again in 1925 with a Bachelor of Laws . He was admitted to the bar the following year and then began practicing in Brooklyn. Between 1940 and 1944 he was an assistant district attorney in Brooklyn.
Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . He was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington DC on June 6, 1944 in the fourth constituency of New York to fill the vacancy created by the death of Thomas H. Cullen . In 1944 he ran for a seat in Congress in the twelfth constituency of New York. After a successful election, he succeeded Samuel Dickstein on January 3, 1945 . He was re-elected three times in a row. He was then in 1952 in the 14th electoral district of New York in the 83rd Congress elected, where he succeeds on January 3, 1953 Abraham J. Multer took. He has been re-elected ten times in a row. In 1974 he refused to run again and also resigned from his congress seat on December 31, 1974.
He lived in Washington DC until his death on October 26, 1975, and was then buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
