Leo C. Zeferetti (born July 15, 1927 in Brooklyn , New York - † March 21, 2018 ) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 1983 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Leo C. Zeferetti attended public schools in Brooklyn and New York University in 1963 . Between 1964 and 1966 he went to the Baruch College of the City University of New York . He served in the US Navy between 1944 and 1946 . Between 1957 and 1974 he worked as a Corrections Officer in the Department of Correction in New York City. During this time he attended the President's Conference on Correction as a MP and served on the New York State Crime Control Planning Board from 1972 to 1974 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1975 congressional election for the 94th Congress , Zeferetti was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 15th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Hugh Carey on January 4, 1975 . He was re-elected three times in a row. In 1982 he suffered a defeat in his renewed candidacy and resigned from Congress on January 3, 1983 . As a Congressman, he chaired the Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control ( 97th Congress ).
