William G. Stahlnecker

William Griggs Stahlnecker (born June 20, 1849 in Auburn , New York , † March 26, 1902 in Yonkers , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1885 and 1893 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Griggs Stahlnecker was born in Auburn about 16 months after the end of the Mexican-American War . The Stahlnecker family then moved to the then still independent city of Brooklyn and later to New York City . William pursued an academic career and attended New York University in New York City. He studied law , got his lawyer license, and then started practicing. In addition, he also went about commercial business. He was a member of the New York Produce Exchange . In 1880 he moved to Yonkers. Between 1884 and 1886 he was mayor of Yonkers. He took part in June 1884 as a delegate to the Democratic State Convention in Saratoga and in the same year at the Democratic National Convention .

In the congressional elections of 1884 he was elected as a Democrat in the 14th electoral district of New York in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Lewis Beach on March 4, 1885 . He was re-elected three times in a row and then retired from the after 3 March 1893 Congress of.

Then he worked as a lawyer again. He died on March 26, 1902 in Yonkers and was then buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown .
