James Birdsall

James Birdsall (* 1783 in New York , † July 20, 1856 in Flint , Michigan ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1815 and 1817 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Birdsall studied law . He was admitted to the bar in 1806 and then began practicing as the first practicing lawyer in Norwich , Chenango County . In 1811 he was guardianship and probate judge ( surrogate ) in Chenango County.

As an opponent of an overly strong central government, he joined the Democratic-Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson at that time . In the congressional elections of 1814 for the 14th Congress he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 15th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Isaac Williams junior and Joel Thompson on March 4, 1815 , which previously represented the district together in the US House of Representatives. Birdsall was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1827 . He was one of the founders of the Bank of Chenango . In 1839 he moved to Fenton , Genesee County, and from there to Flint, where he died on July 20, 1856. His body was buried in Glenwood Cemetery .
