Morris Michael Edelstein (born February 5, 1888 in Międzyrzec Podlaski , Poland , † June 4, 1941 in Washington, DC ) was an American lawyer and politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives in 1940 and 1941 .

Career

The Edelstein family immigrated to the United States in 1891 and settled in New York City . Morris Michael Edelstein attended public schools and Cooper Union College there . In 1909 he graduated from the Brooklyn Law School of St. Lawrence University in New York City. He was admitted to the bar in 1910 and then began practicing in New York City. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . He was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington DC in a by-election on February 6, 1940 to fill the vacancy created by the death of William I. Sirovich . On June 4, 1941, he died in the dressing room of the US House of Representatives in Washington DC after giving a speech in the US House of Representatives. His body was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery in Maspeth .

During the Second World War , the ship SS M. Michael Edelstein was named in his honor.
