Thomas Jefferson Ryan (born June 17, 1890 in New York City , † November 10, 1968 in Miami , Florida ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1921 and 1923 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Jefferson Ryan attended public schools and the College of the City of New York . He graduated from the Scientific School of Fordham University in New York City in 1908 and from the law faculty of the same institute in 1911. He was admitted to the bar in 1912 and then began practicing in New York City. During the First World War he served as a pilot in France and was wounded there. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1920 congressional election for the 67th Congress , Ryan was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 15th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Peter J. Dooling on March 4, 1921 . In 1922 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1923 Congress of.

After his time in Congress he practiced as a lawyer again. He was a delegate at the State Convention in 1922 and in 1924 at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland . Then in 1925 he was Special Deputy Attorney General of New York. Between 1925 and 1930 he served as counsel in the Alien Property Custodian . Ryan joined the Democratic Party in 1926 . He went back to his practice as a lawyer and was a Special Deputy Attorney of New York. In 1950 he retired and settled in Coral Gables, Florida. He died on November 10, 1968 in Miami. His body was interred in Calvary Cemetery in Long Island City .
