John H. Bagley Jr.

John Holroyd Bagley junior (born November 26, 1832 in Hudson , New York , † October 23, 1902 in Catskill , New York) was an American politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives between 1875 and 1877 and between 1883 and 1885 .

Career

John Holroyd Bagley junior attended community schools. In 1851 he moved to California , where he worked in mining, but also pursued other businesses. He later returned to New York. There he was on the Hudson River in Steamboat business operates. He settled in Catskill in Greene County , where he did business, but also made leather. Between 1860 and 1864 he was Supervisor of the Town of Catskill. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1874 for the 44th Congress Bagley was elected in the 15th electoral district of New York in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Eli Perry on March 4, 1875 . Since he on a run again in 1876 renounced, he left the after 3 March 1877 Congress of.

After his time at the congress he went back to his previous commercial business.

In 1882 he ran for the 48th Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded Thomas Cornell on March 4, 1883 . Since he refused to run again in 1884 , he left the Congress after March 3, 1885. During his tenure, he chaired the Committee on Manufactures .

After that he pursued banking and insurance business. He was the Vice President of the Catskill Mountain Railway Co. and Trustee of the Village of Catskill. In 1888 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . In 1896 he ran unsuccessfully for the 54th Congress . He died in Catskill on October 23, 1902 and was then buried in the Village Cemetery .
