Thomas A. Tomlinson

Thomas Ash Tomlinson (born March 1802 in New York City , † June 18, 1872 in Keeseville , Clinton County , New York ) was an American lawyer, officer and politician.

Career

Thomas Ash Tomlinson attended schools in Champlain and Plattsburgh, New York. He studied law , was admitted to the bar, and then began practicing in Keeseville in 1823. He also worked as a factory owner and property speculator. He also served in the militia , where he held the rank of colonel .

Tomlinson was a member of the New York State Assembly in 1835 and 1836 . He was elected as Whig in the 13th Congressional District of New York to the 27th Congress , where he served between March 4, 1841 and March 3, 1843. After his term of office he returned to his practice as a lawyer and also went into real estate trading. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate in 1859 .

Tomlinson died in Keeseville in 1872 and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery .
