Daniel Cady
Daniel Cady (born April 29, 1773 in Canaan , New York Province, † October 31, 1859 in Johnstown , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1815 and 1817 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives . Congressman John W. Cady was his nephew.
Career
Daniel Cady was born and raised in Columbia County about two years before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War . During this time he attended public schools. He studied law in Albany . He was admitted to the bar in 1795 and then began practicing in Florida, New York. He moved to Johnstown, Montgomery County , where he continued to practice law. Between 1808 and 1813 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . He was Village Trustee in 1808 and Supervisor in 1809 and 1810 . In 1813 he was a district attorney in the fifth district of New York. Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party .
In the congressional election of 1814 for the 14th Congress Cady was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 14th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Jacob Markell on March 4, 1815 . Since he on a run again in 1816 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1817 Congress of.
After his time at Congress he went back to his practice as a lawyer. He was a judge at the New York Supreme Court in the fourth district, where he served from June 7, 1847 until his resignation on January 1, 1855. During this time he held the position of judge on the Court of Appeals in 1853 . In the presidential election of 1856 , he joined as an elector ( presidential elector ) for John C. Fremont and William L. Dayton , which both the Republican Party belonged. He was president of the electoral college of New York. He died on October 31, 1859 in Johnstown and was buried in the cemetery of the same name.
