Michael J. Kennedy

Michael Joseph Kennedy (born October 25, 1897 in New York City , † November 1, 1949 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1943 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Michael Joseph Kennedy was born in New York City just before the end of the 19th century. He attended the Sacred Heart Parochial School there . Between 1914 and 1921 he worked as a receptionist ( hotel clerk ) in a hotel. He then served as a clerk on the New York City Board of Elections between 1921 and 1923 . Between 1923 and 1938 he served as the US Marshal in New York City. In 1939 he went into insurance business. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1938 congressional elections for the 76th Congress , Kennedy was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington DC in the 15th constituency of New York, where he succeeded John J. Boylan on January 4, 1939 . After a successful re-election to the 77th Congress he resigned in 1942 to run again and was eliminated from the after January 3, 1943 Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he went back to insurance business in New York City. On November 1, 1949, he died in an airplane accident ( Eastern Air Lines flight 537 ) in the immediate vicinity of Washington National Airport . His remains were then interred in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne .
