Bertram L. Podell (born December 27, 1925 in Brooklyn , New York , † August 17, 2005 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1968 and 1975 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bertram L. Podell was born and raised in Brooklyn about seven years after the end of the First World War . He attended Yeshiva of Flatbush and Abraham Lincoln High School , St. John's University (New York), and Brooklyn Law School . He was admitted to the bar in 1950 and then began practicing in New York City. Between 1944 and 1946 he served in the United States Navy . He was a member of the New York State Assembly between 1954 and 1968 .

Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . He was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in a by-election on February 20, 1968 in the 13th  constituency of New York to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Abraham J. Multer . After three successful elections he suffered in 1974 a defeat in his renewed candidacy and retired after the January 3, 1975 Congress of.

He then worked as a lawyer in New York City, where he died on August 17, 2005.
