Ira E. Rider

Ira Edgar Rider (born November 17, 1868 in Jersey City , New Jersey , † May 29, 1906 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1903 and 1905 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ira Edgar Rider was born in Jersey City about three years after the Civil War ended . He attended public schools and the College of the City of New York (now New York University ). He then graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton . He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in New York City. Between 1898 and 1902 he was Secretary to the President in the borough of Manhattan . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1902 congressional elections for the 58th Congress , Rider was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th constituency of New York , where he succeeded William H. Douglas on March 4, 1903 . Because of an illness he resigned in 1904 to run again and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1905 Congress of.

After his time at Congress he went back to his practice as a lawyer. He died on May 29, 1906 in New York City and was buried in Calvary Cemetery .
