Isaac Williams junior

Isaac Williams junior (born April 5, 1777 in Goshen , New York , † November 9, 1860 in Cooperstown , New York) was an American politician . He represented New York State in the US House of Representatives between 1813 and 1815, between 1817 and 1819 and between 1823 and 1825 .

Career

Isaac Williams junior was born and raised in Goshen during the War of Independence . He received a modest education. In 1793 he moved to Otsego County with his father . It was 1810 Under Sheriff appointed in Otsego County and 1811 by the Council of Appointment to the sheriff - a position which he held until the 1813th

As an opponent of an overly strong central government, he joined the Democratic-Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson at that time . John M. Bowers was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in a by-election on May 26, 1813 in the 15th  constituency of New York to fill the vacancy created by the death of William Dowse (1770–1813) originated. However, his election was successfully challenged on December 20, 1813 by Williams, who then served in Congress until March 3, 1815 . In the congressional elections of 1816 for the 15th Congress , he was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he succeeded James Birdsall and Jabez D. Hammond on March 4, 1817 , who previously represented the district in the US House of Representatives had. He left the Congress after March 3, 1819. In 1822 he ran in the 13th constituency of New York for the 18th Congress . After a successful election, he succeeded John Gebhard on March 3, 1823 . He left the Congress after March 3, 1825.

Williams ran unsuccessfully for the post of sheriff in 1828. He died on November 9, 1860 in Cooperstown and was then buried in Warren Cemetery in Otsego .
