Jabez Delano Hammond

Jabez Delano Hammond (born August 2, 1778 in New Bedford , Massachusetts , † August 18, 1855 in Cherry Valley , New York ) was an American doctor, lawyer , author and politician . Between 1815 and 1817 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jabez Delano Hammond was born in New Bedford during the Revolutionary War . He attended preparatory schools . Then he studied medicine . In 1799 he started in Reading ( Vermont to practice). He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Cherry Valley in 1805. In 1812 he was elected trustee of the Cherry Valley Village. He was on the Council of Appointment .

As an opponent of an overly strong central government, he joined the Democratic-Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson at that time . In the congressional elections of 1814 for the 14th Congress he was elected in the 15th constituency of New York to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Joel Thompson and Isaac Williams junior on March 4, 1815 , which previously represented the district together in the US House of Representatives.
