John Hazard Reynolds

John Hazard Reynolds (born June 21, 1819 in Moriah , New York , † September 24, 1875 in Kinderhook , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1859 and 1861 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Hazard Reynolds was born and raised in Moriah about four years after the end of the British-American War . He attended public schools in Sandy Hill (now Hudson Falls ) and Bennington ( Vermont ). Then he worked as a civil engineer . In 1840 he graduated from Kinderhook Academy . He studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Kinderhook, Columbia County , in 1843 . He moved to Albany in 1851 , where he continued to practice as a lawyer.

In the congressional elections of 1858 for the 36th Congress Reynolds was for the anti- Lecompton - Democrats in the 14th electoral district of New York in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he on March 4, 1859, the successor of Erastus Corning started. After his time at Congress he went back to his practice as a lawyer. He was appointed to the Commission of Appeals as a judge in 1873 - a position he held until the court was dissolved on July 1, 1875. He died on September 24, 1875 in Kinderhook and was buried in the cemetery of the same name.
