George R. Andrews

George Rex Andrews (born September 21, 1808 in Ticonderoga , New York , † December 5, 1873 in Oshkosh , Wisconsin ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1849 and 1851 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Rex Andrews was born and raised in Ticonderoga, Essex County , about four years before the outbreak of the British-American War . During this time he attended community schools and graduated from Albany Law School . He was admitted to the bar in 1836 and then began practicing in Ticonderoga. Politically, he was a member of the Whig Party . In the congressional election of 1848 for the 31st Congress , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 14th constituency of New York , where he succeeded Orlando Kellogg on March 4, 1849 . He retired from the after March 3, 1851 Congress of. In 1852 he moved to Oshkosh, where he was in lumber business. He died there on December 5, 1873 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery .
