Michael E. "Mike" McMahon (born September 12, 1957 on Staten Island , New York ) is an American lawyer and politician of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the United States House of Representatives for New York State from 2009 to 2011 .

biography

McMahon was born on Staten Island. He has Irish and German ancestry. He graduated from New York University and New York Law School . He then worked for State Assembly members Eric Nicholas Vitaliano and Elizabeth Connelly . Before being elected to the New York City Council in 2001, he was a lawyer . He was a member of the City Council until 2008.

In 2009 he was elected to the US House of Representatives for the 13th congressional electoral district of New York as the successor to Vito Fossella . The borough includes Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn . In the House of Representatives, he was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure . In the 2010 elections he was unable to defend his seat. The Republican Michael Grimm took this from January 2011 . McMahon was named District Attorney for Richmond County, which is coincident with the Borough of Staten Island , in January . The post had become vacant after Republican incumbent Dan Donovan won the election for McMahon's former congressional mandate, replacing the resigned Michael Grimm .

He is married to Judith Novellino McMahon and lives on Staten Island. McMahon is Roman Catholic . Since 1981 he has been a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg .
