Daniel Michael Donovan, Jr. (* 6. November 1956 in Staten Iceland , New York City , New York ) is an American lawyer and politician of the Republican Party . Since 2015 he has represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1974 Daniel Donovan graduated from Monsignor Farrell High School in Staten Island. He then studied criminal law at St. John's University until 1978 . After completing a regular law degree at Fordham University , he was admitted to the bar in 1988. In the meantime he worked as an investigator and youth advisor. From 1989 to 1996 he was the Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan , and from 1996 to 2001 he served on the staff of the District Mayor of Staten Island, Guy Molinari . In 2001 and 2002 he was Deputy District Mayor there. He then served as the District Attorney in Richmond County from 2002 to 2015 .

Following the resignation of Michael Grimm , convicted of tax fraud , Daniel Donovan was elected as his party's candidate in the Eleventh constituency of New York State to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on May 5, 2015. There he is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Homeland Security Committee . He also sits on a total of four sub-committees. Since he was confirmed in office in the 2016 election , he is also a member of the 115th Congress of the United States , which will meet on January 3, 2017 . His current mandate runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in the 2018 election . His predecessor Michael Grimm competes against him in the pre-party internal primary of the Republicans; But Donovan is supported by the local and state party leadership.
