Elisha J. Winter

Elisha J. Winter (born July 15, 1781 in New York City , † June 30, 1849 in Lexington , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Elisha J. Winter was born in New York City during the Revolutionary War . In 1806 he moved to the part of the township of Peru in Clinton County , which today includes the township of Ausable . There he went to the ore mining. Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party .

In the 1812 congressional elections for the 13th Congress , Winter was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the twelfth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Arunah Metcalf on March 4, 1813 . In 1814 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1815 Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he moved to a farm near Lexington in Fayette County , where he worked as a farmer. He also helped there with the construction of the first railway. He later served as President of the Lexington & Ohio Railroad . He died on June 30, 1849 in Lexington and was buried in the cemetery of the same name.
