Henry Ashley

Henry Ashley (born February 19, 1778 in Winchester , New Hampshire , † January 14, 1829 in Catskill , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1825 and 1827 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Ashley was born in Winchester during the Revolutionary War . He attended community schools. In 1811 he worked as an office clerk in the Village of Winchester. Ashley served as the justice of the peace in 1817 and later as a leather maker in Catskill, Greene County . In 1825 he chaired the Tanners' Association . Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction.

In the 1824 congressional elections for the 19th Congress , Ashley was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eleventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded Charles A. Foote on March 4, 1825 . Since he on a run again in 1826 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1827 Congress of.

After his time at the Congress, he resumed his previous business activities. In 1828 he was President of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Catskill and Trustee of the Apprentices' Library . He died in Catskill on January 14, 1829 and was buried in Thomson Street Cemetery .
