Lester D. Volk

Lester David Volk (born September 17, 1884 in Brooklyn , New York , † April 30, 1962 ) was an American doctor, lawyer and politician . Between 1920 and 1923 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lester David Volk was born in the then still independent city of Brooklyn and grew up there. During this time he attended public schools and high school. He graduated from Long Island Medical School in 1906 and then began practicing as a doctor. In the following time he worked as editor of the Medical Economist . He graduated from St. Lawrence University Law School in 1911 . In 1912 he was elected to the New York State Assembly as a Progressive . He decided not to run again. He was admitted to the bar in 1913 and then began to practice. In 1914 he worked as a coroner . During the First World War , he served as First Lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the American Expeditionary Force in 1918 and 1919 . He was largely responsible for securing the pay allowance, which was approved by the state of New York. As a judge advocate in 1922, he looked after the New York veterans who fought abroad. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party . As a delegate, he attended the Republican State Conventions in 1920, 1924, 1942, and 1946 .

In a by-election on November 2, 1920, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth electoral district of New York , to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Reuben L. Haskell . In the regular election of 1920 he was elected to the 67th Congress . He suffered in the midterm elections of 1922 a defeat and withdrew from the after March 3, 1923 Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he represented New York City on the American Waterways Commission in 1924 . On March 1, 1943, he became Assistant Attorney General in New York - a position he held until January 15, 1958. He died in Brooklyn on April 30, 1962 and was then buried in Bayside Cemetery in Ozone Park .
