Eugene James Keogh (born August 30, 1907 in Brooklyn , New York , † May 26, 1989 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1937 and 1967 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Eugene James Keogh was born in Brooklyn about seven years before the outbreak of World War I. He attended public schools and commercial high school in Brooklyn. Keogh graduated from New York University Business School in 1927 and from Fordham University's School of Law in New York City in 1930 . In 1927 and 1928 he taught in public schools in New York City. Between 1928 and 1930 he worked as a clerk on the New York City Board of Transportation . He worked as a trainee lawyer in 1930 and 1931 . He was admitted to the bar in 1932 and then began practicing in New York City. In 1936 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1936 congressional elections for the 75th Congress , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Stephen A. Rudd on January 4, 1937 . He was re-elected 14 times in a row. Since he on a run again in 1966 renounced, he left the after January 3, 1967 Congress of. As a congressman, he chaired the Committee on Revision of the Laws ( 76th to 79th Congress ).

After his time at Congress, he resumed his practice as a lawyer. Between 1973 and 1976 he was a member of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board . He lived in New York City until his death on May 26, 1989.
