Robert L. "Bob" Turner (born May 2, 1941 in New York City ) is an American politician . From 2011 to 2013 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives . In the internal party primaries for running for the US Senate in the 2012 elections, he was defeated by Wendy E. Long , who ran against incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand .

Career

Bob Turner graduated from Richmond Hill High School in New York and then studied at St. John's University there . Between 1962 and 1964 he served in the United States Army . He worked in the advertising and television industries for over 40 years. He designed his own television shows and ran Multimedia Entertainment . He modified the format of various television programs and series, including the Baywatch series, which is well known in German-speaking countries . He also held leading positions at several advertising companies. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He became a staunch opponent of President Barack Obama's health care reform . In 2010 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives.

Following the resignation of Democratic MP Anthony Weiner , to whom he had previously been defeated, Turner was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC on September 13, 2011 in the due by-election for the ninth seat in New York took up his new mandate. Since he did not stand for another candidacy in 2012 and instead sought his party's nomination for the Senate elections without success , he only exercised this mandate until January 3, 2013. He was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee , the Veterans Committee and the Committee on Homeland Security .

Bob Turner was married to Peggy Turner for 48 years. He has five grown children and 13 grandchildren. In November 2012, his home in Queens was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy or ravaged by subsequent fire.
