Nicholas Sickles
Nicholas Sickles (born September 11, 1801 in Kinderhook , New York , † May 13, 1845 in Kingston , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1835 and 1837 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Nicholas Sickles was born in Kinderhook in the early 19th century. He attended private schools and the Kinderhook Academy . Sickles studied law , was admitted to the bar in 1823, and then began practicing in Kingston. Politically, he belonged to the Jacksonian faction. In the congressional elections of 1834 for the 24th Congress , Sickles was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded Charles Bodle on March 4, 1835 . Since he refused to run again in 1836 , he resigned after March 3, 1837Congress off. After his time in Congress, he was prosecuting attorney in Ulster County in 1836 and 1837 . He served from January 1, 1844 until his death on May 13, 1845 in Kingston as a guardianship and probate judge ( surrogate ) in Ulster County. His body was then interred on the Houghtaling Burying Ground .
