Samuel Sherwood (politician, 1779)
Samuel Sherwood (born April 24, 1779 in Kingsbury , New York , † October 31, 1862 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Samuel Sherwood was born in Kingsbury during the War of Independence . He completed his preliminary studies. At the age of 15 he began to study law in Kingston . In 1798 he moved to Delhi , where he continued his studies. He was admitted to the bar in 1800 and then began practicing in Delhi. Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party .
In the congressional election of 1812 , Sherwood was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Benjamin Pond on March 4, 1813 . Since he on a run again in 1814 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1815 Congress of.
After his time at Congress he resumed his practice as a lawyer in Delhi. He then moved to New York City in 1830, where he continued to practice. In 1858 he gave up his practice as a lawyer. He died in New York City on October 31, 1862 during the Civil War and was buried in Woodland Cemetery , Delhi.
