Jared V. Peck
Jared Valentine Peck (born September 21, 1816 in Port Chester , New York , † December 25, 1891 in Rye , New York) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Jared Valentine Peck was born and raised in Port Chester about a year and a half after the end of the British-American War . During this time he attended community schools. He then went to lumber, brick, hardware, and building materials stores. He was an auditor in the town of Rye in 1844 and 1845 . In 1848 he was a member of the New York State Assembly . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .
In the congressional election of 1852 for the 33rd Congress , Peck was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of New York , where he succeeded William Murray on March 4, 1853 . Since he on a run again in 1854 renounced, he left the after 3 March 1855 Congress of.
After his time at Congress, he resumed his previous business. Governor Edwin D. Morgan appointed him in 1859 as overseer ( warden ) in the New York harbor - a position he held until 1865. During this time he lived in New York City . He was one of the founders of the Union League Club . Peck returned to Westchester County and settled in Rye. In the following time he was a member of the Board of Auditors . He died on December 25, 1891 in Rye and was then buried in Greenwood Union Cemetery .
