Henry M. Goldfogle

Henry Mayer Goldfogle (born May 23, 1856 in New York City , † June 1, 1929 there ) was an American politician.

Goldfogle studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1877, and immediately began practicing in New York City. In 1887 and 1893 he was a judge in the 5th District Court, and from 1888 to 1900 at the District Court of New York City. After that, Goldfogle began working again as a lawyer.

In 1892 and 1896 Goldfogle was a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions . In the elections to the 57th Congress he was elected for his party to the House of Representatives of the United States , where he represented the state of New York from March 4, 1901 to March 3, 1915. He was re-elected six times. When re-elected to the 64th Congress, he was defeated by the socialist Meyer London . This was able to defend his seat in the following election against Goldfogle and was only defeated by Goldfogle in the election for the 66th Congress. Goldfogle was now from March 4, 1919 to March 3, 1921 again in the House of Representatives of the United States, but lost his seat again in the next election to Meyer London. After retiring from politics, Goldfogle began to practice again. In July 1921, he was named President of the New York City Board of Taxes and Assessments . He held this office until his death on June 1, 1929. Goldfogle was buried in Union Hills Cemetery on Long Island .
