John Lovett
John Lovett (born February 20, 1761 in Newent Society , Colony of Connecticut , † August 12, 1818 in Fort Meigs , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1817 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Lovett was born in Newent Society (now the Township of Lisbon ) and grew up during the British colonial era. In 1782 he graduated from Yale College . He moved to Albany and from there to Fort Miller , where he worked as a general agent and land steward . He then moved to Lansingburgh . He served in the New York State Assembly in 1800 and 1801 . Lovett then returned to Albany, where he worked as a clerk for the Common Council until the outbreak of the British-American War . He was the military secretary of General Stephen Van Rensselaer on the north-western border. In October 1812 he was wounded in the Battle of Queenston Heights . He returned to Albany. On March 3, 1813, he was town clerk ( county clerk ) in Albany County - a position which he held until March 31, 1815th Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party .
In the congressional elections of 1812 for the 13th Congress , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Thomas Sammons on March 4, 1813 . After a successful re-election he resigned in 1816 to run again and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1817 Congress of.
After his time at Congress, he settled in Perrysburg . He died on August 12, 1818 in Fort Meigs.
